We are constantly striving to be a more mindful brand - right from production to distribution. Our environmentally ethical practises are in alignment with this agenda.
We're Plastic Neutral
Summer Somewhere has been a plastic-free label since the get-go. We are taking our commitment to being plastic-positive one step further by associating with ReCircle. Our pledge is to recover 2,500 kilos of low-grade single-use plastic from landfills and oceans this year. How will we do this? With your help. In association with ReCircle, we will recover 1kg for every order placed with us. Together, we can truly make a difference.
Recycling
We recycle or repurpose our textile scraps. At the moment we’re only able to recycle 40% of our textile waste. We pledge to reach 75% by 2025.
Local Manufacturing
All our garments are hand-made and manufactured in two family run workshops in Mumbai. We only produce small quantities and do not believe in mass production. We are committed to growing and working with the local communities and artisans around us.
Fabric & Materials
We are conscious about the clothes we produce. All our garments are made from high-quality eco-friendly fabrics that are 100% biodegradable.
Linen is made from flax that uses less water and resources to grow than cotton. Flax has almost no wastage.
Recycled Cotton is made by recycling post-industrial and post-consumer cotton waste. It is recycled and produced in accordance with the Global Recycled Standard (GRS). No new farms are used in the making of this cotton.
LENZING™ ECOVERO™ is an eco-responsible viscose fabric with a low environmental impact. Its derived from sustainable wood and pulp, coming from certified and controlled sources.
GOTS Certified Organic Cotton does not use genetically modified seeds, and does not use pesticides or other harmful chemicals. Organic Cotton is grown through crop rotation.
TENCEL™ Lyocell is harvested from certified wood sources and is fully compostable and biodegradable. 99% of the chemicals used in the processing can be recovered and recycled, making it's production closed loop.
Viscose is a man-made cellulosic fibre made out of wood pulp of renewable plants. Viscose decomposes faster than cotton.
Printing & Dyeing
We use AZO free dyes that are low impact dyes that do not contain carcinogenic compounds.
We use digital printing technology, with GOTS certified inks. This process consumes 70% less water, 50% less water and reduces the impact on air pollution by 60%.
Packaging
Our courier boxes are made from 100% recycled material and are 100% recyclable.
Wrapping paper is FSC certified acid-free paper, printed with soy based inks.
Our mailers/ courier envelopes are recyclable.
It takes a little, but goes a long way.
